Krishna Nagar becomes the second Indian to win Para-Badminton gold for the country. The star-shuttler beat Hong Kong’s Chu Man Kai 21-17, 16-21, 21-17 in the men’s singles SH6 final to win the first medal. He is also the first-ever SH6 gold medallist in the history of the Indian Paralympics.

From the very start it was a tight contest between Nagar and Man Kai Chu. In the first game, Kai Chu headed into the mid-game interval with a slender lead but Nagar came back with much power to win the first game 21-17.

In the second game, the Hong Kong player once again built a lead and it seemed like Nagar’s game dropped a bit in the first half of the second game. Chu Man Kai continued with his momentum and came back strongly and eventually won the game 21-16.

In the decider, it was Krishna Nagar’s powerful performance that became the point of difference as he won the gold.

The 22-year-old from Jaipur, ranked second, retained his unbeaten run at the Games and joined compatriot Pramod Bhagat in the gold medal winning list.

Congratulating Krishna Nagar on winning gold in the Tokyo Paralympics, PM Narendra Modi said that his feat has brought smiles to the faces of every Indian. Modi also called Krishna Nagar and congratulated him on winning the gold medal. He lauded Krishan’s efforts and determination.

“This is a dream come true. I want to thank my father, mother, uncle, auntie, God, my coaches,” Nagar said after winning India’s fifth gold. “This is the first time that badminton has been added to the Paralympics and I hope that India will keep winning and doing their best at upcoming Games,” he added.
