Devendra Fadnavis, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), declared Eknath Shinde, the rebel leader of the Shiv Sena, as the new chief minister of Maharashtra on Thursday (30th June).

Fadnavis shocked everyone by upsetting standards that he would retain the Shinde faction’s support and become the next chief minister.

After meeting with Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari alongside Shinde, Fadnavis announced at a press conference held on the grounds of Raj Bhavan that Shinde alone will take the oath of office at 7.30 pm and that cabinet advancement will take place later.

PM Narendra Modi congratulates Deputy CM of Maharashtra:

PM wrote, “Congratulations to Shri @Dev_Fadnavis Ji on taking oath as Maharashtra Deputy CM. He is an inspiration for every BJP Karyakarta. His experience and expertise will be an asset for the Government. I am certain he will further strengthen Maharashtra’s growth trajectory.”

Shinde is the man who rose from humble beginnings of being an auto-rickshaw driver to leading a rebellion after feeling sidelined by the Thackerays to employing a split in the party and forcing Uddhav Thackeray to step down.

He rose to the top of the state’s political structure through sheer willpower, a sharp mind, and calculated planning.
