Winners of The MTV VMAs 2021: Big night for Justin Bieber, Lil Nas X and Olivia Rodrigo

The MTV VMAs had another successful night with pop stars glittering the red carpet. The annual ceremony saw some of the biggest names in pop at the Barclays Centre in New York City on 12th September.

Justin Bieber who took home award for artist of the year got maximum nominations. Bieber was nominated in seven categories, followed by Megan Thee Stallion with six nominations. Billie Eilish, BTS, Doja Cat, Drake, Giveon, Lil Nas X and Olivia Rodrigo, a first-time nominee, each earned five nominations.

It was a big nights for Lil Nas X as the singer won the top prize at the MTV Video Music Awards. The 22 year old gave a tongue-in-cheek thank you to the “gay agenda” in footage broadcast by MTV. While accepting the video of the year award for Montero (Call Me By Your Name), the delighted rapper can be heard saying, “First, I want to say thank you to the gay agenda! Let’s go, gay agenda! The star, who has emerged as a vocal advocate for LGBT rights, raised awareness of HIV in the US South through his performance during the VMAs.

It was also a night to remember for pop princess Olivia Rodrigo. The 18-year-old was not only named best new artist at her first VMAs she also won song of the year and Push Performance of the Year for her megahit Drivers License.

Among the performers were pop couple Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes, Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, evening’s host Doja cat, The Kid LAROI feat. Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Machine Gun Kelly feat. Travis Barker and many more.

Alicia Keys too delivered a tribute to New York City on the weekend marking the 20-year anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. She performed her track “Empire State Of Mind”, a love letter to her hometown.
