As another Shiv Sena MLA joined the rebel camp in Guwahati, which is already thought to have enough members to wrest control, Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar reached to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at his residence on Friday (24th June).
While the NCP and Congress continue supporting the Shiv Sena, Maharashtra’s chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has stated that the party’s own leaders have betrayed the party.
“Today, Congress and NCP are with us. Sonia Gandhi and Sharad Pawar have backed us. But our own party people have betrayed us. We gave tickets to people who were ineligible to win, and we turned them into winners. These individuals have betrayed us today,” Thackeray said.
With 38 MLAs on his team, rebel leader Eknath Shinde seems to to be tightening his hold on the Shiv Sena. The rebel MLAs, who have been relocating to a hotel in Guwahati since June 20, gave Shinde permission to choose a new course of action on June 23.
At a meeting of the party’s district leaders called by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday, he claimed to have left the Varsha Bungalow but had maintained his “will to fight.”
