Lata Mangeshkar Passes Away! Nation Mourns The Loss; PM Modi To Attend Funeral

Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary singer, died at the age of 92. She breathed last on Sunday at 8:12 a.m. in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital.

Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary singer, has passed away at the age of 92.

On January 8, Mangeshkar tested positive for Covid-19 with mild symptoms and was being treated at a hospital.

She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital’s ICU and was being treated by Dr. Pratit Samdani and his team of doctors.

Until last week, the legendary singer’s health was improving, but it deteriorated and she was placed back on ventilator support on Saturday morning.

The singer was also struggling to recover from pneumonia. On January 30, she recovered from COVID-19 and pneumonia.

Mangeshkar was admitted to the very same hospital in November 2019 after complaining of difficulty breathing and being diagnosed with pneumonia.

She was released after 28 days.

On Saturday, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray,

filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, and NCP leader Supriya Sule visited the hospital to check on the singer.

Narendra Modi is expected to arrive in Mumbai today at 4:15 p.m. to pay his respects to the legendary singer.

Mangeshkar, was born in Indore, has always been the voice of screen idols for generations.

She began her career at the age of 13 in 1942 and had sung over 30,000 songs in various Indian languages over the course of her seven-decade career.

Dil Mera Toda, her first hit song, was written for the 1948 film Majboor.

Lata Mangeshkar gained massive popularity in the following year, 1949, with the track Aayega Aanewaala from Madhubala’s film Mahal.

There was no turning back for Mangeshkar after that, and she went on to become the most iconic singer in Indian cinema and music history.

Some of her most loved songs were ‘Ajeeb Dastan Hai Ye,’  ‘Jab Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya,’ ‘Lag Jaa Gale,’ ‘Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai,’  ‘Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koi Shikwa To Nahin,’ ‘Tune O Rangeele,’ ‘Aye Mere Wattan Ke Logo,’ ‘Maye Ni Maye,’ ‘Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye,’ ‘Tere Liye,’ and ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’.

A large crowd has gathered outside the residence of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on Peddar Road in Mumbai, as her mortal remains has been left from the Breach Candy hospital.

Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary singer, will be cremated with full state honours at Shivaji Park later today.

PM Narendra Modi have payed tributes to late veteran singer earlier today over twitter:

“I grieve with my fellow Indians on the passing away of Lata Didi. Spoke to her family and expressed condolences. Om Shanti.” -wrote Narendra Modi over twitter.
