PV Sindhu won the Singapore Open Super 500 trophy after defeating China’s Wang Zhi Yi in the women’s singles final on Sunday (17 July).

Sindhu prevailed over Wang, the ruling Asian Championships gold medalist, in a title match marred by errors. In favour of the Indians, the final score read 21-9 11-21 21-15.

Having defeated Wang in their lone encounter at the All England Championships this year, the 27-year-old from Hyderabad entered the contest with a 1-0 lead over Wang.
