With the release imminent, Johar is not only seeking a temporary halt to the film’s distribution but also a permanent injunction against any unauthorized use of his name in connection with the movie.
In his plea, Johar underscores the necessity of preventing the unauthorized use of his name in the film’s title, citing infringement upon his personal rights, including privacy and publicity. He asserts his lack of involvement with the movie or its creators and stresses that the use of his ‘brand name’ without consent undermines his hard-earned reputation and goodwill in the industry. The urgency of the matter is highlighted by the circulation of promotional materials, such as trailers and posters, across various platforms, including social media.
In an official statement reported by India Today, the suit highlights the irreparable damage caused to Johar’s goodwill and reputation by the trailers and posters. It emphasizes the potential further harm that could result from the release of the film bearing his brand name, which he has painstakingly built over years of dedication and investment.
Justice RI Chagla’s bench has agreed to hear the case on June 13, a day before the film’s scheduled release, underscoring the seriousness of Johar’s legal challenge against the unauthorized use of his name in the movie’s title.
