Michael Hussey, the batting coach of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), remains hopeful that MS Dhoni will continue playing for “another couple of years” despite uncertainty surrounding the legendary cricketer’s future in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In an interview on ESPN’s Around the Wicket show, Hussey admitted to being uncertain about Dhoni’s plans for the next IPL season. However, he expressed his desire for Dhoni to prolong his career for a few more years.

While acknowledging Dhoni’s secretive nature regarding his future plans, Hussey emphasized Dhoni’s exceptional batting form and work ethic, highlighting his consistent performances throughout the current IPL season.

Dhoni’s recent knee surgery has prompted CSK to manage his workload carefully, with the former captain often coming lower down the batting order. Despite this, Dhoni has made significant contributions with the bat, showcasing his ability to make an impact even in limited opportunities.

Hussey also discussed the smooth transition of captaincy from Dhoni to Ruturaj Gaikwad at the start of the season. Although initially surprised by Dhoni’s decision to step aside as captain, Hussey praised Gaikwad’s calm demeanor and leadership qualities, crediting the youngster for effectively leading the team.

Under Gaikwad’s captaincy, CSK has enjoyed success in the current IPL season, winning seven out of 13 games and currently occupying the third position on the points table. Gaikwad’s impressive batting performances have also contributed significantly to the team’s success.

Looking ahead, Hussey expressed confidence in Gaikwad’s continued growth as a leader and batsman, highlighting his composure and ability to perform under pressure.

Overall, Hussey remains optimistic about the future of CSK under Gaikwad’s leadership and hopes to see Dhoni continue to contribute to the team’s success for years to come.
