MS Dhoni‘s decision to hand over the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings to star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja two days before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 has stunned the cricket world.

On their social media account, CSK announced the news, adding that Dhoni will “represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond.”

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, two giants of Indian cricket, will be playing without the captain’s band for the first time in IPL history.

There’s no doubt that this marks the end of an era in the IPL.

The sudden announcement by the Chennai Super Kings marks the end of an era in the Indian Premier League, as IPL 2022 would be the first season without MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli leading a team.

Kohli resigned as RCB captain at the culmination of Bangalore’s IPL 2021 campaign in the United Arab Emirates.

When it comes to quitting the captaincy or announcing his retirement, the World Cup-winning captain has always been his own man.

In Australia in 2014, he left his Test leadership and also played the five-day game in the middle of a series.

Dhoni made way for Virat Kohli in 2017 after he was confident he was ready to lead India across all forms.

MS Dhoni, one of the most magical leaders the sport of cricket has ever seen, and Virat Kohli, the super – human captain, have also been the banner men of the cash-rich T20 league since its beginnings in 2008.

The much celebrated image of the big players of Indian cricket going face to face of each other at the toss during the IPL will now become a thing of the past.

In the last decade, Dhoni and Kohli have fought off countless times as rival IPL captains.

Kohli, 29, was named captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013, while Dhoni has been the captain of Chennai Super Kings since the league’s start.
